How to access the SEND Local Impact Teams

How to get support for a child or young person.

The SEND Local Impact Teams can be accessed by submitting a Request for Involvement through any Learning Support Coordinator or Principal in a child / young persons school or setting.

A school can submit a Request for Involvement (RFI) when a child or young person has already received support through Stage 1 of the Graduated Response Framework, but may benefit from additional help from the SEND Local Impact Team.

Once a request is submitted from a school or setting, it goes through several steps before support begins. The SEND Local Impact Team will review the information, identify the most appropriate pathway of support if required, and work directly with the school and family.

  1. SENCo/Learning Support Coordinator (LSC) completes the Request for Involvement (RFI) form.
  2. A completeness check will be carried out to confirm that all relevant details of the child or young person’s needs have been included in the form.
  3. The RFI form and supporting information will be considered by a moderation panel.
  4. If the moderation panel recommend support, the RFI will be sent to the SEND Local Impact Team and contact will be made with the school/setting to discuss support.
  5. Support is usually delivered in cycles of up to 12 weeks. Timelines can vary depending on the number of requests and staff availability.
  6. When the support period ends, progress is reviewed. Schools are expected to continue using and embedding the agreed strategies or programme of support so the child or young person can continue to make progress. If ongoing or persistent needs are identified, a pathway review may take place and further cycles of support may be offered where needed.
